{ The Tale Of Two Couches}

So here are the VISIBLE reasons why we sent back our new couches to get a full refund. This is after only 5 days and we were soooooo dang careful with these. No toys, food, pencils, NOTHING only socks and blankets. The upholstery fabric isn't even a snaggy type of material.
These are made by ASHELY who we will never buy from again, and they are from the ELLISON AMBER line. We have a recliner (also Ashley) which you see in the above picture, the rocker/glider mechanism only lasted 1 year before pooping out. I should have known better then to buy more Ashley but thought the couches would be different. Maybe this has only happened to our Ashley furniture, because we are lucky like that.
But I just thought I would give any of you looking at this furniture line the FYI.

And there they go...... Kinda sad huh? I really did love these couches.
Ps. My Portland trip went GREAT, I had such a fun time with my Mom, I'm so glad she was able to go with me. It's been over 12 years since we've had a girl day together! So shopping at IKEA (both our first time) was a blast! Now the next time I go I need a bigger budget, more time and a trailer. That's not so much to ask for is it? ;)

  3. that sucks, thanks for the heads-up on Ashley furniture though...we'll be buying couches in a few years and I have no idea what to look for.
Ikea...portland Ikea is my Ikea too, I haven't been in over a year...and then before that it had been a year...must be a yearly trip type of thing...portland is far away!

  4. Hi there, I am new to your blog and just read about your couches. I live in Jacksonville Florida and our Ashley funiture store has had all sorts of issues. Its been all over our paper that they are known to have better quality on their showroom floor and you get not the same when delivered. You could probably google Ashley furniture and its amazing the complaints. I haven't met a person here who has a nice thing to say about em. I am on a hunt for some couches too, but I will stay away from Ashley. I am enjoying your blog!

  5. I always felt Ashley furniture was lacking in the quality dept. Although my SIL has a dining table set that she like very much. Thanks for the confirmation, personally I am not too crazy with LazyBoy but that is what we have and they will fix things like broken mechanisms etc. I just feel like they should hold up better for the price. 6. Yikes! We actually bought an Ashley couch about 3 years ago and it's really held up well. It's the kind of upholstery that cleans up easily, but doesn't have that suede look. It's also navy blue which is a big help! Those snags don't look fun though, I'd have sent it back too!

  7. Pottery Barn furniture is worth the money. We have had our couch for five years and it has held up great. Also slip covers wash up great from kids and pet mishaps.

  8. We bought a dark brown paisley patterned La-z-boy sofa (I know! Sounds awful, but they are pretty, and have a carved wood trim)set three years ago and it still looks great! I have four little kids and three cats. Our newest cat scratches at it almost daily, and there is NO evidence of his malfeasance. The purple silly putty, well...

  9. So sorry to hear about your couch. We have a very similar Ashley couch and have had it a couple years. The fabric looks the same, but we haven't had any problems with it. I love the look, but I can say that I don't think it will last as long as our old couch did. The frame just isn't as strong. I guess if something was going to happen, better that it happened early on so you could ship it back.

  12. Oh my goodness - I am glad you could send them back. We bought our sofas from Costco years ago and they are holding up great. Have you looked there? I too love IKEA and it is fun to get lost in there.

I am also anxious to see your homemade laundry detegent post! Will you share the recipe? Please??

  13. Same Ashley story here. 2 chairs and ottomans that were total pieces of crap! Looked good, but quality was none existant. Glad they took them back!

  14. Ok, so I posted too soon on your facebook. I am glad you got time to spend with your mom like that. It is ever so important. Yes, I am sure you needed a bigger budget and a trailer. I love the pics of the skirt. Great idea.

  16. That's a complete bummer about your couches. I'm glad we didn't have the same experience as you did. We bought a set of brown leather couches from Ashley a year and a half ago and they have been fabulous! They still look just as great as they did when they were delivered. I hope you have better luck next time. Best wishes in your couch hunting! :) Camille

  17. So disappointing! I don't know much about the quality of Ashley furniture, but I suspect part of the problem is with that style of fabric. We have VERY similar fabric on our Basset sectional that cost $5000. We've had the sectional for less than 1.5 years and I've already had them replace cushion covers. Our snags weren't as bad as yours, but they were obvious and we're also VERY careful with our furniture. We paid top dollar for this big sectional because we expected to have it for YEARS and YEARS to come...at this point I'm hoping we can get five years out of it. Never again will I pay this much for a couch. Never.

  19. We've had major problems with a love seat. I loved it at first and it has recliners on either side. The mechanism keeps breaking. Of course it didn't break until we had it past the warranty of 1 year but RC Willey came and repaired it for free twice. It's breaking again and we've only had it 2 years. I'll never buy this brand again either. I can't complain about RC Willey though as they have fixed it twice. The rest of the love seat looks great but you kind of need the mechanism. Next time I'll spend the extra money on a Lazy Boy if I want recliners. I've avoided them since they shut down their Tremonton factory and moved all the jobs to Mexico. I like to buy American.

  21. I love Ikea!!! I am hoping to make another trip there soon. Glad you and your mom had a fun time. I would love to go to Ikea with a big budget and a big truck. LOL

I have an Ashley couch-microfiber. It's not too bad. There is wear on one of the arms but we use it all the time so it's too be expected. I am glad that we didn't purchase the reclining couches because I have heard they break easily.

  22. I love IKEA! My closest is the Portland one too, only about an hour and a half from me though!

  23. I have the same recliner from Ashley and my recline mechanism did the same thing. I got so used to having to tip the chair up to recline it by grabbing ahold of the metal and pulling I caught myself doing at my moms on her recliner that worked! Lol... All I can safely say about Ashley furniture is; not worth the money!
