{ CHRISTMAS DECOR 2020 }

 So the holidays were a quick blur (am I alone here?) and having no snow made it just seem well, not as Christmasy if that makes any sense. 

But to help combat that - we decorate!! 

I should add, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Christmas decor, it does seem to make everything around just a little more cheery. But, I also am a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas colors. Don't get me wrong I love a good neutral decor and have seen so many bloggers/Instagrammers with gorgeous neutral holiday decor. But there is just something about red and white that just gives that extra POP to our home. My home is a neutral palette for most of the year so why not go all out for Christmas. And yes, I even decorate our 1 lone bathroom. 

I DIY flocked my Christmas tree 3 years ago and I still LOVE it! I bought it from Wal-Mart back in 2008 on clearance, she has been a great tree for our small living room. She's skinny, tall and we have thoroughly enjoyed it every single year.

{ The Girls Bedroom Re-Fresh }

Remember me? So it's been a hot minute since my last post, life has a way of well, getting in the way and little things like blogs get pushed to the wayside. We've had lots going on the last several years, our oldest son went on a mission for our church for 2 years, came home, and was married a year later! I'll post more about that later. Kids have all been growing up and moving on. I think we blinked!!

But, back to business, since we've been on the worldwide COVID lockdown we decided to do a few home projects. Here is what we did in the girl's room, it's been years since I've shown their bedroom. I think the last time I shared it they had bunk beds, we built this iron pipe bed and ladder a few years ago, our oldest daughter is graduating this year (yay class of 2020) so Addison will be moving down to the lower bed when she moves out and we will have an extra bed for friend sleepovers! 

So without further ado ~ Here is their bedroom refresh. 

 We painted our oldest daughter's bed black. I bought this YEARS ago on a scrapbook retreat up in Joseph, Oregon.

 Finally finished underneath the top bed with a little faux shiplap, and behind Brinley's bed.

 We did the magic light trick with these lights above both the girl's beds. 

These fixtures used to be on our front porch!

All the bedding is mostly from Ikea, and yes the girls do have a closet, 

it's actually an old Garment Rolling cart that used to be in my grandparent's 

old grocery store.

{ Christmas is in The Air }

Christmas is just around the corner, 

here is my keeping it real holiday photo. 

Sadly I didn't take many photos this year of my holiday decor. 

You gotta love my American flag still up on my cupboard. :)

 Finally did Christmas cards for the first time in several years.

{ Planked Bathroom Ceiling }

Did I ever mention that we planked our bathroom ceiling?
Mostly likely not.
Anywho, we have 1 bathroom in this house of 8 people. That's right I said 8. Yes, this bathroom most days is like Grand Central Station. I kid you not. We so need another bath or maybe we just need to move.
I say move, what? did I just say that out loud?
Anyway, focus Rachel! This bathroom used to be part of a porch. This old farm house never had an actual bathroom until the 1960's. They had used an outhouse up this point. I'm so envisioning an episode of Alaska the Last Frontier right now.

The ceilings are SUPER low and the bathroom is VERY small. In fact to make the bathroom even smaller, when we moved in there was a wall with a door in the middle of the bathroom separating the sink from the tub & toilet. We removed the wall and door and put in a new sink vanity and tile etc. But that left a nasty line in the ceiling where the stud was from the wall So the only thing I could come up with to hide the ceiling and all it's imperfections was to plank it.
Here are the before pics:

We used some leftover wood pieces (very thin wood might I add, as to not add to much bulk to the ceiling- the ceiling is low enough as it is) from my husbands work. So this project cost us PENNIES we used some nails (air nailer) and a dab of wood glue here and there. We have since painted the planks white with some leftover paint we had and I LOVE IT. It's holding up great, even with all of us who shower on a daily basis.
We also want to trim out the ceiling but are on hold as we may be doing a major remodel of the bathroom all together. We want to remove the tub and put in a walk in shower. That means new tile, new floor etc...

I promise to take some after pictures here soon.
We are still working on a few things like a light fixture, you would think we could get that one up, but no......

{ Christmas 2012 }

We had a great Holiday Season this year. 

Christmas Eve was spent with my wonderful family and friends.

My kids were awesome this year, every gift they opened, they loved and were grateful for. The phrase "Thank You" was flowing on Christmas day. 

I loved it!

I'd would like to say THANK YOU to all of you who sent us cards, I loved getting each and every one of them. 

I am going to try and send out something one of these days. 

But at the rate I'm going they will be a Valentine's Card. :) 

Here are some pictures of our Snowman themed tree this year 

(a couple are from Christmas Eve and the rest I took on the 26th when I took her down). 

How is it that the Christmas Tree comes down WAY faster then putting her up? But my house is back to normal. 

In fact it feels a little naked. 

I suppose I should get to getting some winter decor up.

{ Before & After }

I bought this cute little item at a local but very "short lived" craft store that we had here in our town. 

(crafts stores around here seem to have a shelf life like a gallon of milk, they never last long)

I love that I can keep some of my small stuff organized but still within the kids reach & the items inside change all the time.

 It's one of the things that's allowed on the counter top in my kitchen along side my toaster and sugar/flour containers. 

I loved it when I bought it but hated the "wood look" yes I'm a paint lover, not so much with the stain.

So I gave her a quickie makeover by painting it white and sanding down the edges. I need to go back and do a little more sanding but I have to say that  I love it so much more now that's she's all pretty & white.

I am so glad to finally check this project off my mile long list of things to do!!

{ Farmhouse Bed Part 2 ~ Knock Off Wood }

I promised I would post about the famous -Knock Off Wood- Farmhouse bed after she was all painted and here I am ready to deliver!
We love how this bed turned out so stinking much. We altered the plan a little and used Crown Molding on the headboard instead of a 2x6.
I do love me some crown molding....

Have I mentioned how much I love Ana's Blog and all the plans she has available? Seriously this gal has some mad wood skills. If you haven't checked out her site you really should, she has so many fabulous furniture plans available & all of them come with shopping lists. She takes the guess work out of woodworking!

I think some new bunk beds will be in our kids future, well that and more furniture for the Homestead!
