Leave the door green and wah-lah! It'll be a large piece that kind of blends in, it'll look fabulous IMHO :)Cn't wait to see what you do with it! It would look really great. I have a couple of flat or eggshell (no shiny stuff) painted black with rubbed edges so it looks a little worn, and I LOVE them!!!
HOWEVER....
When I saw the last photo, I thought for a moment it should be white because of the dining room.
I don't think you can go wrong here. Regardless, I think both pieces could be the same. Either do both white, or both black for continuity from room to room.
I think in the end, my vote is for both pieces to be a flat/eggshell black.
It will really pop and add a richer look to both spaces.
Good luck...I can't wait to check back in!lukenamyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09095182779167400465noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21614057.post-17525863917006979522008-07-22T08:38:00.000-07:002008-07-22T08:38:00.000-07:00swet rach....i remember when you posted just to se...swet rach....i remember when you posted just to see who would respond and that you were sad becaue you had just a handful of replies... and now look at you! 33-34 and still going and even one that doesn't live in the usa!?! you go girl! we love you! as for the black/white thing...don't ask me...i have ZERO decorating sense! i was sorta hoping you would come over and fix my house for me until everyone got sick! hope you are feeling better! hang in there and good luck with the cabinet. i love it!ellenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02524902576267233623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21614057.post-26606147944353539312008-07-21T21:50:00.000-07:002008-07-21T21:50:00.000-07:00I am going to be no help because I would just say ...I am going to be no help because I would just say Black. But you convinced me to open my big mouth. I agree with someone up above in your comments, paint it a variation of your wall color. I think based on where it is in the room and how large it is, letting it fade into the background a bit might be the best solution. I was having the same decision since I picked up an antique hutch this weekend. I wanted to paint it but my hubby said...if you paint it, it will ruin the value, so who am I am to answer...I can't decide myself. I think I will take a picture and let everyone else decide. It's a HUGE piece and you want it to compliment the room, not overpower it. What about using the color chip that you picked your wall color from, and go a shade lighter? Then either sand it or glaze it, or both, to bring back some of the "aged" character. Then add a beautiful, fabric behind that picks up the colors in your room---maybe with a smaller print.
Third, (like we're counting here?) I like the dining room cabinet in white. It blends with your woodwork and almost appears to be a built in.
That's my free advice, for all it's worth. What about doing a wash of black? Somewhat distressed like the green on the screen door? But not even as solid as the green. More washed on. In my humble opinion, there is already alot of whiote going on between the two rooms. I agree with one commentor who mentioned black being "slimming".
BUT, whatever you choose I am sure will be adorable....as teh rest of what I've seen is! Which color are you ...ok-you have quite a mix here. Which color are you going to pick. My professional advice-(remeber people actually pay me to tell them my opinion-Not that really makes a difference-just thought I would sound more important that way. Did it work? Anyway-
Pull out the red AND black spray paint.
Red all over first-espesially on the edges. Then spray it black. Get a shiny finish. I like it better for bigger peices.
Let it dry acouple of hours. The spray paint seems dry-but it isn't. Anyway-sand the edges and then pull out the polyurethane. Oh baby-I am giddy just thinking about what it could look like. A cute toille fabric. Maybe a red metal star haning on a small cup hook. Super cute!! I would paint the large cupboard black as well. I think that black is a forever color. It is a neutral that goes with everything.
PLUS-it doesn't show dirty, jammy, peanutbuttery finger prints. Just saying! I know that you wanted that much of my opnion-know you will sleep better-right? Whatever you decide-hurry up and do it so we can see what the final peice looks like!!Taushahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09132962343851092154noreply@blogger.com
